Anna Megil, the narrative lead on the upcoming Fable reboot, has announced that they are leaving the project.
Megil, who has worked previously on Guild Wars 2, Dishonored and Control, said on Twitter that she has “had several wonderful years scribbling away in my fairytale cottage, but the time feels right for new challenges.”
“Working on Fable was a dream come true for me, and it’s wrenching to leave it behind. But Playground has assembled a Heroically talented team, so I know it’s in good hands. I’m excited for what’s coming next—for them and for me,” Megil said.
Playground co-founder Gavin Raeburn, alongside other former members of Playground Games staff, launched Lighthouse Games earlier this year.
Lighthouse Games is the second triple-A studio to be put together by former Playground staff this year.
In January it was announced that some of the key talent behind the Forza Horizon series had left Playground to form a new triple-A development studio called Maverick Games.
After years of silence, a new trailer for the Fable reboot was shown as part of the Xbox Games Showcase in June. The new trailer, which claims to be running in-engine, shows The IT Crowd star Richard Ayoade telling the game’s story.
Back in 2021, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said players should be confident in the quality of the game given Playground’s pedigree.
“The only thing I can really say about Fable is, seeing the pedigree of the team and Playground, and where they set the bar for themselves in building a game – I think that showed with the Forza Horizon 5 preview that they had,” Spencer said.
“I think people should just take confidence in that [studio director] Gavin [Raeburn] and the team there have that same level of focus on doing something amazing with an IP that we know is really important to a lot of Xbox fans, so we can’t wait to get to show more, but the team is just amazing.”
