Sometimes Always Monsters Lets You Control the Narrative This April

Developer Vagabond Dog knocked it out of the park with their 2014 release Always Sometimes Monsters. The game told a mature story with plenty of player choice that could completely alter the course of your adventure. Not only that, but it’s one of the best examples out there of how powerful the RPG Maker engine is. And now, the team is back with their follow up. Sometimes Always Monsters was originally announced for 2016. That obviously didn’t happen, but Vagabond finally announced the release date and it’s coming sooner than you might think. Check out the new trailer below.

Sometimes Always Monsters take the premise from the original and inverts the whole thing. Instead of being a struggling author hoping to write that elusive hit, you play as a successful writer whose life gets turned upside down. However, you can import your save from ASM into SAM to continue your story, regardless of how it ended up playing out. It all sounds like exactly what fans of the original are looking for.

Personally, what I loved most about ASM was the breadth of player choice. It seems like Vagabond Dog has gone even further in that direction for SAM. In fact, you don’t even have to engage with the main narrative arc to finish the game. Truly, you can roleplay this game any way you want. Some people might not like that freedom, but I can’t wait to see what Vagabond has in store for their follow-up.

Sometimes Always Monsters launches on PC April 2. Giving you plenty of time to check out the excellent first game in the series to get prepared.
