The prize money and supplementary prizes have been outlined for EVO Japan 2020's main stage games. No matter how well players perform at the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event that will be held there, it's likely that everyone there will be competing at a loss of expenditures.
Funnily enough, it's been revealed that first place will receive a Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Don't worry though — a golden Smash mark is included on the controller.
For Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7, first place winners will receive 1,000,000 yen (about $9,092.00). Second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh place finishers will receive 400,000 yen ($3,636.80), 200,000 yen ($1,818.40), 120,000 yen ($1,091.04), 80,000 yen ($727.60), and 60,000 yen ($545.70) respectively.
Those that compete in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Samurai Shodown, and Soul Calibur 6 can potentially be awarded 500,000 yen ($4,547.00), 200,000 yen ($1,818.80), 100,000 yen ($909.40), 60,000 yen ($545.64), 40,000 yen ($363.76), or 30,000 ($272.82) depending on how they perform.
As for this Nintendo Switch Pro controller, it's exclusively handed out for special events like these. It's difficult to ascertain the monetary value for it.
Another version of the controller has the Smash logo appearing silver rather than gold. This particular version is worth about $79.99. Nothing is awarded to anyone who places below first place.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is actually the game that has accrued the highest number of entrants that will be competing at EVO Japan this year. In fact, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's numbers more than doubled the title — Street Fighter 5 — with the second highest amount of competitors. What's funny is that most top level players actually use a classic GameCube controller rather than the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
While it is currently unconfirmed why Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's prizes (or lack thereof) are so lackluster compared to the rest of the games, it is worth mentioning that it is the only Nintendo game in the lineup. Nintendo is not typically known for supporting the competitive scene in the same way as the companies behind the other titles.
