#Gamers #Fallout4 in Unreal Engine Looks Pretty Spectacular:

Fallout 4, which turns eight this year, is given a bit of a visual makeover as one person shows what the Bethesda RPG looks like in Unreal Engine 5.

It's never too late for an aging game to be given a bit of pep, as proved by one person who decided to show what Fallout 4 looks like in Unreal Engine 5, and the results are pretty impressive. As an open-world game with a dense map, the fourth entry in the post-apocalyptic RPG series is still a marvel of development prowess. Sure, it's fast approaching its eight birthday, which does make it fairly old in this modern gaming era, but it still looks pretty spectacular.

While it may not be considered the best Fallout game of all timeFallout 4 still has a lot going for it. The vast world for exploration, hundreds of hours of in-game content, and a dedicated modding community all combine to make it a worthy entry in the franchise. However, the game was built in Bethesda's own Creation Engine, the development toolkit used to make Skyrim that, even back in 2015, was starting to show the cracks.

That's probably why YouTuber and artist Ghost Design decided to see what Fallout 4 would look like in Unreal Engine 5. As spotted by DSO Gaming, a recent video shows a slideshow of the open-world title in all its glory, boasting a new look that's been applied to a number of set pieces. Using photoscanned assets from the likes of Megascans, the modder really gives a visual makeover to the Fallout game, with highly detailed textures more in line with modern releases. Unfortunately, Ghost Designs says that they had to stick with a slideshow rather than a full video as the renderer in Unreal "broke down."

Unreal Engine is one of the most popular game engines in the world and is used in the creation of plenty of AAA and indie titles. Its fifth iteration is even more powerful, with features and tools that can make video games look almost like real life. Even non-developers understand the might of Unreal, more so when stacked up against the Creation Engine, especially given that the latter is more than 11 years old at this point.

Now that Fallout 5 has been confirmed to be in development, fans can look forward to a brand-new entry in the long-running series, especially considering the initial letdown that was Fallout 76. It's impossible to know when the next installment will actually be released, but it's likely to be after Elder Scrolls 6, and no one really knows when that's coming out, either.

Fallout 4 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports coming in 2023.
