One Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 player discovers an entire city to explore while looking in a fan-favorite map’s out-of-bounds area.
One Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 player has discovered an entire city while exploring a fan-favorite map’s out-of-bounds area. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s maps have plenty of secrets hidden for players to find, and this enormous discovery will come as a surprise to many.
The maps in the game have been the subject of a lot of discussion in the community lately. After months without one, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 confirmed details of its new 6v6 map, Pelayo’s Lighthouse. Prior to the announcement, players felt it had been too long without a 6v6 map, and the current map pool was getting stale to a lot of gamers. Despite this, the recent announcement seems to have gotten players excited again, with more to be revealed as Season 3 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 draws ever closer.
The discovery was made by Redditor dwartbg5, who was exploring the out-of-bounds zone of the Farm 18 map. The user then found that an entire city exists outside the map, and remains there the whole time matches are played. While the map takes place on a city port near the ocean, the level of detail included by the developers is incredible. Some of the models are of course low-polygon level-of-detail models, but there’s still more detail than most would reasonably expect for areas most players will never see. It’s unknown how much impact this city has on the optimization of the map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. However, it’s not a map that commonly receives complaints about frame rate, so it’s likely not a massive issue.
MWII Out of bounds secrets #1 - Yes, what you're seeing is the Farm 18 map. The map apparently takes place on a port in a city near the ocean. A whole city is generated and just stays there in the background.

Gamers in the thread took the opportunity to discuss the potential of the discovery. One user claimed that Infinity Ward could use some of the areas from the map in newer maps, with some details added in for good measure. It certainly seems that more could be planned for these areas, but right now nothing is confirmed by the developer. The contents of Season 3 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have already been confirmed, so it’s unlikely that anything would come of this until at least Season 4.
Despite players knowing what’s in store for Season 3, that hasn’t stopped the community from voicing its desires for the future maps in the game. Plenty of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 want the classic map Crash to return, after its last appearance in 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Ultimately it’s going to be hard for Infinity Ward to please every player. Some want new maps, and others want classics. It will always be a tough balancing act for the developer, one that it has managed well over the years.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
