5. Signalis
We begin by starting off our list with an entry that many players haven’t gotten the chance to experience. Signalis, while being one of the more under-appreciated titles on the Xbox Series X|S, still manages to shine. This horror game offers tons of elements that will appeal to your average horror game fan. Beyond even that, however, the game manages to tell a cohesive story and engage the player within its world. Players will be able to piece the pieces of the puzzle together while also engaging with the game’s puzzle mechanics as well.
The art style and direction for this game are also rather stunning, as its visual style is distinct. The game itself does a fantastic job of setting and maintaining a brooding oppressive atmosphere which lends itself well to the survival elements of the game. While the game’s combat leaves a bit to be desired, what is on offer here is certainly serviceable. So if you are looking for one of the best horror games on the Xbox Series X|S, make sure you check out Signalis.
4. A Plague Tale: Requiem
Our next entry on our list is perhaps one that manages to feel the most real among these titles. A Plague Tale: Requiem is a game that manages to ground itself in reality really well, which only adds to the fear and tension that the player feels throughout the game. This game mainly consists of action-adventure elements coupled with stealth mechanics, which players will need to use to scourge by to survive. This gives the game an almost oppressive feel as you are constantly being reminded of the bleakness of your situation.
Players must find a cure for their brother’s mysterious blood disease. This leads them down this dark path where they must struggle to survive. The game itself takes place in a plague-ridden fourteenth-century France, making it quite the unique setting as well. So if you are looking for a title that has its own unique identity and manages to tell quite a different story compared to other horror games, definitely keep this title in mind. Overall, A Plague’s Tale: Requiem is simply one of the best horror games on the Xbox Series X|S.
3. Dying Light 2
Our next entry has a title that takes the popular open-world formula and applies it to the zombie survival genre. This game, Dying Light 2, despite having been released quite some time ago. It is still one of the best horror games that you can play on the Xbox Series X|S. This isn’t a small feat at all, either, considering the number of titles that have been released since this game’s release. The game features a blend of smooth combat and frantic FPS gameplay, as well as fantastic parkour elements. This will have the player running from roof to roof, evading the horde as they go along.
The open-world sandbox in which players are able to explore is not only immense. But it is also packed to the brim with details. This goes a long way toward helping the world itself feel alive as you are taking your course through the game. There is a day-night cycle in the game as well, which actively plays into the gameplay itself. Players can plan their encounters around the location and time of day/night, making for immersive gameplay. So if you are looking for a survival horror title that ramps up the action, then Dying Light 2 is a great choice
2. Dead Space
Dead Space is, simply put, one of the best horror games to ever release. Added to this is the fact that the remake, which was released recently, only serves to sweeten the pot, and you have a recipe for success. This is great both for the game’s legacy as well as survival games as a whole. Players will once again step into the boots of Isaac Clark, an engineer, and do battle with Necromorphs. All the while searching for a means of escape. The gameplay for this game has aged like a fine wine and only feels smoother and more responsive.
Through the power of the game’s remake, players can get more immersed in the experience than ever before. This is due to the upgrade in technology, allowing for textures, lighting, and various other elements to shine through. So if you are a fan of the survival horror genre or horror games in general. Then Dead Space is a title that you absolutely cannot miss. Simply stated, it is one of the best horror games on the Xbox Series X|S.
1. Resident Evil 4
For our last entry, we have a title that hardly needs an introduction upon its initial release years ago. Many fans of the Resident Evil series were skeptical of the new point-of-view the game would use. The new over-the-shoulder look certainly hadn’t grown on anyone yet. Added to this was the fact that players were unsure about the game upon its release. However, once they got their hands on the game, it quickly became received as one of the best horror experiences in gaming.
The remake of this absolute classic is able to bring the game up to modern standards. There is only one word to describe the experience, stunning. Players will once again play as Leon Kennedy and face off against cultists and cult leaders in search of the President’s daughter. Along the way, the player will encounter multiple enemy types that they will have to deal with. The game also does a great job of encouraging players to use their inventory items to get by. And not so much brute strength. In closing, Resident Evil 4 is one of the best horror games ever to release, and its inclusion on the Xbox Series X|S only serves to cement its legacy among a new generation of players.
