Valorant, Riot Games’ upcoming tactical shooter, has already generated a lot of hype since its announcement earlier this year. Seemingly seeking to supplant CS:GO, the game will focus heavily on its shooter gameplay, while using a method of background storytelling similar to that of Overwatch. Although its launch is still some time away, fans may not know that they can actually already reserve their own Valorant username.
How to Reserve Your Own Valorant Username
Valorant, like any game from Riot, will be launching on Riot’s own PC gaming platform, rather than Steam or the Epic Games Store, etc. On Riot, you do have a unique profile username, but this doesn’t carry over to your games. Instead, you have a separate, region-specific username attached to your account which serves as your Game ID on the platform. Although Valorant hasn’t launched yet, the game already has a page on Riot where you can effectively reserve your game username ahead of release.
To reserve your username, you’ll need to have a Riot account. Note that if you already have a Riot account, then you likely already have a Game ID username; that will be your Valorant username when the game launches. If you don’t already have one, click here, and you’ll find yourself on the League of Legends website, where you can sign up for an account. Remember that the first username you pick will be your profile username, not the name you’ll use for Valorant.
Once your account is set up, log in on Riot’s website. Once you do, open the second tab and look for the section entitled “Riot ID”. This is the name which you use as your Game ID when you’re actually playing a game on Riot. Enter whatever you want and check to see whether it’s available. If it is, then you’ll know that the username you want is reserved for when Valorant does launch later this year.
