The dead walk the earth again. No, the COVID-19 pandemic hasn't turned into a zombie outbreak (yet) - Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills is back on, according to an early report from Rely On Horror.
These come in the wake of rumors that have followed the venerable horror series for months. According to the site's trusted sources, Sony is working to repair the rift between Kojima and Konami, and encouraging both to push forward with the cancelled title. If this is true, it would bookend the half-decade of juicy drama surrounding the title.
Compounding these rumors are reports that Norman Reedus, sans funky fetus, is teaming up with Kojima for "other stuff." Could that "stuff" encompass Silent Hills? Who knows! But if I was a betting gal, I'd put my money on, "yeah, probably."
Better yet, Silent Hills might not be the only Silent Hill game in development. According to other sources, there is a second game in development. This game would see the reunion of creator Keiichiro Toyama, composer Akira Yamaoka, and artist Masahiro Ito. That ties into a cryptic tweet from Ito, which just read, "Pyramid Head R.I.P." Previously, Ito said that he'd only come back to the Silent Hill series if Pyramid Head was either killed off or absent entirely. So, y'know, take that for what it's worth.
Obviously, nothing here is a true confirmation. We won't know if Silent Hills is back on, nor if a new proper Silent Hill game is coming, until we hear it straight from the source. However, Rely On Horror has a good track record, and this is coming off literal months of cryptic teases, leaks, and rumors. If there's smoke, there's usually fire - or in this case, if there's fog, there's probably a nightmarish hellscape.
Silent Hill has been in a dubious place for years, if we're being kind. The last title was the fairly abysmal Book of Memories, and the last major piece of series media was Silent Hill Revelations 3D - often pointed to as one of the worst video game movies ever made. As a lifelong fangirl, it's about time that Konami does something with that license, and they really can't go wrong with Kojima and the team that made the series what it is.
So hold onto those steel pipes - you may need them soon.
