Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem emerged from Steam early access February 13, but the isometric dungeon crawler soon ran into a problem familiar to anyone who tried playing Diablo III on launch day: servers couldn’t handle the influx of players. Wolcen Studio says it’s working to get online functionality turned on again, but it’s frustrating players who wanted to get into multiplayer action this weekend.
There are, apparently, a lot of them. Wolcen Studio says servers were unable to handle the number of players trying to connect, resulting in authentication errors when launching the game. SteamDB tells part of the story: Wolcen’s concurrent player count spiked to nearly 100,000 the day after release, and servers just couldn’t keep up with demand.
The connectivity issues resulted in some unpleasant knock-on effects: characters players had created would sometimes disappear, or they would lose items they had found or quest progression. Wolcen Studio pushed out a hotfix Friday night, but as of Sunday morning were still working on fixing the game’s database issues and tweeted that it would still be some time before online functionality was restored.
We're finishing to fix the database issues caused by the amount of simultaneous connections, and we're making sure that all character data have been retrieved. We will most likely need a bit more time before we can bring back the servers online and we will give you an ETA asap.

However, once the studio has increased server capacity and addressed any remaining connectivity problems, launch day woes will likely sink into the background.
Wolcen is a Diablo-like that allows you to build your character however you like, without class restrictions. You can also transform into one of four celestial incarnations – massive archangel-type beings that can unleash havoc on the battlefield.
Just give it another day or two before you jump in, if that kind of thing is up your alley. While you wait, try something from our list of the best co-op games on PC.
