Media Molecule's Dreams has left its Early Access state and is available for all PlayStation 4 players now. The full release offers access to the game's entire suite of creative tools, the wealth of content already crafted by the existing Early Access community as well as a brand-new developer-created story mode: "Art's Dream".
Dreams is a tough thing to summarise: it's a creation suite with no specific end-product in mind. The tools it offers are so flexible and robust that they can be used to create games, animations, 3D environments, music, gadgets, models, art pieces and so much more. In addition, many of the tools are relatively accessible for non-experienced designers, meaning that —unlike most creation suites— the average player can get stuck in without feeling too overwhelmed.
Far from a blank set of tools, Dreams is bursting with personality and an inviting charm that makes players feel proud for trying their hand at creativity, regardless of how successful their endeavour is. And with a campaign (new to this full release) that showcases Media Molecule's own creations, there's even more in Dreams to capture a player's imagination than ever before.
Media Molecule has made a point of championing player creativity in its earlier release (LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway), but the Sony-owned studio has outdone itself with Dreams. It's truly a piece of software worthy of admiration, even if the concept doesn't personally appeal to everyone.
Dreams is out now exclusively for PlayStation 4 for £34.99.
