Last month, Activision and Infinity Ward rebranded Modern Warfare’s Outback Pack as the ‘Call of Duty Outback Relief Pack,’ and pledged to donate all proceeds from sales of the pack to Australian bushfire relief. Now, just three weeks later, Activision has announced that the Call of Duty community has already raised over $1.6 million!
Call of Duty Outback Relief Pack Raises Over $1.6 Million
Sales of the Call of Duty Outback Relief Pack ended a few days ago, on the 31st of January. All told, in the few weeks while the pack was available, players were able to raise an incredible total to support bushfire relief in Australia. Evidently, the Australian bushfire tragedy is something which fans were keen to rally around. Indeed, the cause has inspired similar actions from other publishers. Gearbox, for example, recently auctioned off rare Borderlands 3 merch to raise money for bushfire relief efforts. Now that the money has been raised, Activision has offered fans more information about where it will be going.
According to Activision, they are working with humanitarian organisation Direct Relief to put the full $1.6 million to use. 100% of the money will go towards funding bushfire relief efforts in Australia. “With this donation,” writes Activision; “Direct Relief has already started to provide much needed emergency and health supplies in coordination with local aid groups across the country as they respond to the pressing needs of millions of Australians affected by these tragic conditions.”
Byron Beede, the general manager and executive vice president of Call of Duty at Activision, offered his thanks on behalf of the company to the Call of Duty community. “Call of Duty players around the world came together in support of this terrible tragedy,” he said; “We’re honored to help in this effort with the funds from the Outback Relief pack. We thank everyone for their generosity, and we look forward to putting this donation into action.”
