Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid esports league kicks off this weekend

The first official league for Power Rangers: Battle of the Grid got underway this weekend at Frosty Faustings. Developer nWay has partnered with Lionsgate and Hasbro to sponsor the league, which will participate in six major fighting game events in the U.S. and culminate at Evo 2020 in Las Vegas July 31 – August 2.
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid may not be a household name for most gamers yet, but as our sister site The Loadout reports, it’s built a solid core of fighting fans since its launch in September. The first official league season is a chance for the game to expand that fanbase and potentially become a bigger part of the ever-shifting fighting game ecosystem.
As part of the league, players across the United States will be able to earn Grid points by playing in weekly online tournaments, community events, and monthly local events. Following Frosty Faustings in Illinois, the Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid League will be appearing at Final Round in Atlanta, NCR in San Jose, the April Annihilation in New Jersey, Combo Breaker in Chicago, and the CEO Fighting Game Championships in Orlando.

When the Grid points are tallied up, the top seven players, along with the winner of the Last Chance Qualifier event, will meet for the championship, which is scheduled for Evo 2020 in Las Vegas this summer.
nWay has not announced any monetary prizes for the league at this time.
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid lets you build a three-fighter tag team to take into battle, making it a bit of an oddity among fighting games. But there’s a lot of powerful nostalgia around the Power Rangers franchise, and it’ll be interesting to see whether the game can make a mark for itself in the competitive fighting game scene.
