Rumours and theories about GTA 6’s release date are practically a dime a dozen online these days, and with Rockstar’s silence on the topic, it’s next to impossible to get any sort of accurate sense for what might be true and what not. However, the latest indication about the GTA 6 release date comes from a better source than most; Darion Lowenstein, a former Rockstar employee who now works advising investors about Take-Two’s stock.
Lowenstein’s Prediction for the GTA 6 Release Date
Lowenstein recently spoke with Jeffries, an equity research firm, about the topic of GTA 6 and Rockstar’s future projects. “As a former Rockstar employee,” reads a press release from the firm; “Darion noted that the Houser brothers place all their emphasis on game quality rather than hitting a deadline. His absolute best-case-scenario for a game release is Holiday 2021, though he does not expect an announcement or trailer anytime soon.”
Of course, this is speculation, not firm information. However, given Lowenstein’s experience at Rockstar and his current position, his speculation carries much more weight than most of the fan theories and speculation out there. While Holiday 2021 is perhaps the earliest that he thinks the GTA 6 release date could arrive, it sounds as though he thinks a later date is more likely; perhaps 2022 or even later. Whatever the case, this would make an E3 2020 reveal for GTA 6 less likely. (Although not entirely outside the realm of possibility.)
Certainly, Lowenstein’s speculation would suggest that Rockstar has their sights firmly set on a next-gen release for GTA 6, which would certainly make a lot of sense. It’s worth bearing in mind that GTA Online continues to be massively profitable for Rockstar and Take-Two. As a result, the company doesn’t necessarily face a pressing need to release another game. The enduring success of the game likely permits the studio the luxury of time to make GTA 6 as good as possible. Of course, Lowenstein could be mistaken, but it wouldn’t be wise to dismiss his speculation out of hand. For now, fans will have to wait and see… although they could be waiting for some time.
