After a substantial backlash from Apex Legends community, Respawn decided to introduce some changes to Iron Crown cosmetics. These cosmetics will no longer require loot boxes but players will still be able to purchase them directly.
Earlier this week, Respawn Entertainment introduced a new event dubbed Iron Crown, that added a number of fresh cosmetic items to their free to play battle royale Apex Legends. However, the monetisation model behind this particular event has once again outraged many Apex Legends players.
If you're unfamiliar with the whole controversy, basically, the new cosmetic items were locked behind expensive and punishing loot box mechanic. You would get 24 unlockable packs with set items but only two of these are free.
You can then unlock the rest of theses packs in order but to do that, you would have to spend 700 Apex Coins, which cost $7, to unlock each successive box. So if you got your eyes on an item that's in the last box you would need to spend a massive amount of money to get it.
In their latest blog post, Respawn responded to players' backlash and detailed the changes they have made to Iron Crown cosmetics. "With the Iron Crown event, we missed the mark when we broke our promise by making Apex Packs the only way to get what many consider to be the coolest skins we’ve released," Respawn wrote in their blog post.
